GRLA is currently seeking a designer with 5+ years of experience.  The Designer is responsible for development and preparation of construction documents on assigned projects, project team support, design and detailing for corporate, mixed use and interiors projects. 5+ years’ experience in architectural offices. Strong AutoCAD, 3D and Revit skills required.  Good communication and listening skills, multi-tasking and flexibility are key. LEED accreditation a plus.   Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.

BUILDING ENVELOPE SCIENCES TECHNICIAN

GRLA is currently seeking an architectural, engineering or construction person with at least 5 years of related experience with the following minimum requirements:

  • Experience in field testing of water penetration and building envelope failures
  • Experience in writing detailed reports documenting field analysis of failures and remedial work
  • Development of CAD plans, details, drawings and specifications for BES work
  • Bidding coordination and review and contractor selection criteria
  • Familiarity with contracts and agreements
  • Familiarity with historic costs for remedial work
  • Familiarity with various and standard construction systems as well as legacy construction
  • Field review of remediation work under construction
  • Field reports and contractor communication
  • Working knowledge of architectural, engineering and construction nomenclature
  • Solid AutoCAD experience
  • Massachusetts, Stretch Energy Code and IBC Building code experience
  • Clear and concise communication skills and professional interaction with clients, committees and contractors

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Civil, Structural or Mechanical or 5 years equivalent BES field experience

BUILDING ENVELOPE SCIENCES PROJECT MANAGER

Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects is currently hiring an experienced Building Envelope Sciences (BES) Project Manager.   The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years’ experience managing a wide variety of building envelope projects, and possess the following skills:

  • Ability to manage multiple BES assignments at one time, including proposals, contracts, ASAs/change orders, scheduling, invoicing, and profitability
  • Coordinate in-house team as well as outside consultants
  • Conduct field tests of water penetration and building envelope failures
  • Write detailed and concise reports documenting field analyses of building envelope failures and recommend appropriate remedial work
  • Develop details, drawings, and specifications
  • Oversee bidding process, and coordinate the contractor selection process
  • Provide construction observation and field review
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Contribute to GRLA’s business development efforts through outreach and networking
  • Possess contacts for business development and outreach for new BES work
  •  Management:
    • Managing project work assignments
    • Management of project scheduling
    • Management of contracts, agreements and ASA’s
    • Management of invoicing and profitability for all projects
  • Business Development:
    • Possess contacts for business development outreach for new BES work
    • Management of business development and outreach to new and existing clients
    • Coordination with Marketing Group for outreach
  • Project Management:
    • Coordination of in-house team and outside consultants
    • Field testing of water penetration and envelope failures
    • Writing detailed and concise reports documenting field analysis of failures and recommended remedial work
    • Development of details, drawings and specifications for BES work
    • Bidding coordination and review and contractor selection criteria
    • Provide input on all projects regarding envelope detailing and especially projects with legacy construction of all types
    • Field review of remediation work under construction
    • Field reports and contractor communication
    • Maintain up-to-date on Massachusetts Stretch Energy Code and IBC Building code requirements and implementation into projects
  • Experience
    • 10 -15 years related BES expertise across a wide range of project types
    • Architectural, engineering, construction and building envelope experience
    • Public sector and private sector project experience
    • Experienced in water and moisture testing procedures
    • Expert report writer
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Registered Architect or Engineer or related professional degree
    • Registered Roof Consultant
    • Participates in industry related events
