Grimshaw Gudewicz Bio-Medical Center

Providence, RI

Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects worked with Brown University on an on-call contract at the Grimshaw Gudewicz Bio-Medical Center. GRLA renovated an existing biotechnology laboratory to accommodate a new 2,670 SF molecular pharmacology physiology biotechnology lab. The project included new casework with reagent racks, microscopes and laser microscopes with isolation tables, relocation of fume hoods, incubators, refrigerants, autoclaves. GRLA also rebalanced the mechanical systems to accommodate the new lab area along with reconfiguring the circulation paths.

GRLA also completed a 5,200 SF three-phase renovation in the Animal Care Facility laboratory area. The scope of the project involved the removal of a first floor slab area and the installation of a dropped new floor and waste piping system to accommodate four new large cage sterilizers, as well as replacement of an adjacent cage sterilizer, renovations of offices on a lower floor and record storage expansion. Careful inventory of existing structural and MEP systems was crucial to the successful phased construction planning.
