Entrance to Lenore’s Pantry & Market
North Attleborough’s new Health and Human Services Complex at 451 Elm Street in North Attleborough is now in operation. The North Attleborough Senior Center and the Council on Aging have relocated along with offices for the Health Department, Veterans’ Services and state representatives. Additionally, it is the new home for Lenore’s Pantry & Market, a community-based food pantry focused on improving food security and access for the community with a grocery store experience.
The town bought the 30,000 SF building from Fisher College in 2023 and tasked Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects (GRLA) with developing a design to meet each group’s needs and the community. GRLA carefully considered circulation because the abundance of existing walls had previously caused confusion in wayfinding; new signage and clearer sightlines now help guide guests through the facility. The food pantry’s new space fosters a dedicated grocery-style area with new equipment and support spaces that include staff restrooms, a kitchenette, a packaging area, and a nearby loading dock for efficient deliveries. The updated entryway features a new storefront with an exterior ramp, automatic door opener and interior wheelchair lift. Beyond the updated entrance, there is a new waiting area and transaction window for the Health Department. New flooring and paint refresh the space now occupied by the senior center. Additionally, the existing kitchenette was expanded and fully renovated to better serve the Senior Center’s operations as a congregate meal site and the Meals on Wheels program. Lastly, the project included the installation of a building-wide sprinkler system for fire protection to improve the life-safety of the building.
